Competitors representing 14 countries took part. They were: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Rhodesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Nyasaland, Hong Kong, Southern Rhodesia, and Gibraltar.

Only the winner received a small gold medallion on a key ring chain with no awards being made to competitors in second and third place although all competitors received a commemorative souvenir similar to the winner’s medal. There were no flags, opening processions, music, or opening speeches. Athletes entered a as individuals, and not as representatives of their country.
